Volunteers Needed
Have you any spare time to lend a hand?
We’re looking for volunteers to help support our LifeBooks projects in Stanley and Ebchester this Spring; read on to see if this is something you’d like to do.
What is LifeBooks?
The heart of what we do at Digital Voice is to give a voice to those people often digitally excluded. LifeBooks is a ten-week programme that allows older people, including people with dementia and alzheimers, to tell their life stories.
Will there be training?
Yes! We’ll do a full induction on how to assist the LifeBooks facilitators which will involve using an iPad to help people to gather photos and text and add it to a powerpoint style app. You don’t need to be an iPad expert but a little familiarity will help.
How can I help?
You will support an individual in the compiling of their story. You’ll need to be patient and supportive, friendly and approachable. You’ll be an important part of putting a person at ease and you’ll build a real bond. There’s also always an impromptu sing-song on our LifeBooks courses, but you don’t need to sing!
What will I get out of it?
People choose to volunteer for a range of reasons; learning new skills; improving life for others; giving back to an organisation which has helped them; enhancing a CV; being part of a team; helping people who don’t have a voice.
Whatever your personal reason, we’d love to hear from you.
