Proud to be an Ally: Using Digital Platforms for Good
This Pride Month we’re delighted to be able to share the work of Gateshead Youth Council and akt charity, both of whom we’ve been working with this year.
Gateshead Youth Council is a charity dedicated to empowering young people, to support them to develop life skills and to get involved in social action. Members of the council worked with us on Digital Content Creation and have made a series of Tiktoks about issues that matter to them including body shaming, mental health, gender and sexuality.
These honest TikToks from the group, including people with lived experience of the topics, seek to address some of the myths surrounding lgbtq+ people in a series called ‘Not everything you hear about lgbtq people is true’.
“Our young people loved working with DV for our TikTok project. Learning new skills, stepping out of their comfort zones and having lots of fun.”
Valerie Ender, GYC Coordinator
Coming soon …
Akt is a charity which works with lgbtq+ young people who are facing homelessness or living in hostile environments and their DigitalMe brings to light stories of people with this lived experience. Their film will be posted as soon as it’s ready!
Both groups highlight important messages and not just for the month of June.
