New Year, New Ways of Working

Innovate: to do something in a new way (and our word for this year)

Never one to rest on our laurels, the team at Digital Voice is always keen to try new ways of working, or collaborating or incorporating the latest digital technology into our work. This spring we’ll do all three with the brilliant young people at Chopwell Youth Club in our brand new

Dream It project.

New ways of working

It’s long been our ambition to run projects over a longer period so that participants have a chance to cement their new skills; Dream It will last 18 weeks.

“Just like learning a language or learning to drive, if you can’t practice regularly, you can’t get better or more confident. We can run any number of short projects but if people aren’t able to practice then the learning won’t stick; my ambition for Digital Voice is to support people long-term.”

- Julie Nicholson, Managing Director

Collaborate

We usually have at least two artists working on our projects, this time it’s four; filmmaker Ronnie Johnston; playwright Susan Mulholland; artist and illustrator Laura Crow and sound designer Andy Ludbrook. By bringing together different disciplines, the young people will have more choice in how they choose to express their stories. For the artists themselves, the opportunity to collaborate is very exciting; Susan will be the first to work with the group:

“Usually it’s me on my own but this time, there’s three other artists to share ideas and approaches with, not to mention being able to learn new things along the way. This team will be able to inspire and support the young people’s ideas in such exciting ways, I can’t wait!”

Latest technology

As AI develops so too do the ways in which we can use it creatively. Ronnie Johnston has been experimenting with new AI software so the young people can animate their stories in new and exciting ways.

We’ll be doing regular check-ins with the artists and participants and giving you some sneak previews of their work along the way.

We can’t wait to see what they create!
