A local organisation for local people: Why we’re proud to call Gateshead home!

From our base in Chopwell, Digital Voice has delivered projects across Gateshead for the last 15 years and has exciting plans to do even more right across the borough.

Our mission is to harness the power of digital to make life better, through sharing stories, growing skills and self-esteem and communicating key messages creatively. We target those who are very often digitally excluded of which there is a high proportion in Gateshead; we want to change that.

Julie Nicholson, our Managing Director and co-founder of the company reflects on our work over the years:

“One of our first ever projects was with care-experienced children, funded by Gateshead Council and now, although we do also deliver regionally and nationally, most of our projects are still for communities in Gateshead. Whether they are local history initiatives, teaching older people to use iPads or giving care-leavers a platform to campaign for free travel passes, at their heart, these projects are about giving a voice to those who aren’t always heard and that makes me very proud indeed.”

As we celebrate our birthday we are already looking to the future and how we can continue to improve people’s lives in Gateshead, here’s just some of the ways we’ll be popping up in local communities over the coming months.

“We’re delighted to be working with Gateshead Council on their Locality Working project, a borough wide initiative to improve the wellbeing of all residents. We’re also supporting the NHS in Gateshead to consult with patients to help them improve service as well as creating a DigitalMe with the youth offending team. We can’t wait to report on the recent wallaby sighting in Chopwell Woods with the Chopwell Youth Club. Oh and we’ve made a podcast for Saltwell Park with the Art Diamonds; Gateshead, we’ve got you covered!”

Happy birthday to us!
