Chopwell Park/Pavilion
The pavilion was built in 1935 for the miners, using money from their wages, £10 000 or thereabouts. There was a bowling green and space for cricket and tennis. Later it was football fields. Always stuff going on, field days, the jazz band practising, school sports days and the parky was always chasing someone out! A plane crashed here in the 2nd World War and the pilot was found on the cricket field.
