Why we’re bidding a not so fond farewell to Twitter/X

Along with many other colleagues across the sector, we will no longer be using the Twitter/X platform.

As an organisation committed to uplifting communities, Digital Voice has always strived to create an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone we serve. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all voices are heard, respected, and valued.

In alignment with our core values of community, respect, and inclusion, we believe that our digital interactions should reflect these principles. Unfortunately, the current climate on X/Twitter does not align with the safe and inclusive environment we aim to cultivate.

Over the past year, we have observed an increase in unchallenged hate speech, misinformation, and divisive rhetoric on X/Twitter, which is contrary to our commitment to fostering constructive and positive engagement. These developments have led us to make the decision to close our X/Twitter account.

The safety and well-being of our diverse community, both online and offline, remain our top priority. Therefore, we will no longer engage on a platform that has become increasingly hostile and unwelcoming to the very communities we seek to support.

We continue to champion free speech and believe in the power of robust, respectful dialogue. However, we also recognise that the quality of discourse is essential, and it must always be conducted with civility and care for one another.

Digital Voice for Communities will continue to be active on other social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, where we hope to continue fostering a more positive and supportive online community. We invite you to join us there as we carry on our work to ensure that every voice is heard.
