Ooh something smells good: practical and tasty tips from our Recipe4Success project

We’re delighted to have run our Recipe4Success project with three more organisations this summer; Tyne Housing, a charitable housing association which focuses on providing support to vulnerable and isolated people living in the North East; Liberdade, an arts organisation that enables people with learning disabilities to run their own company in the North East; and DiverCity Hub, a centre for health & well being, sports, extra curricular activities, education, participation in Newcastle’s West End.

Funded by North of Tyne’s Multiply Fund, the project aimed to equip people with basic numeracy which they can use in practical ways. Our groups chose to apply it to the very real cost of living crisis we find ourselves in, by calculating how to make their money go further whilst still making healthy and tasty meals.

With our excellent partners The Nourish Food School and The Pickle Palace, our participants have learnt numeracy and cookery skills, plus the skills to share their tips and recipes via social media.

Their films ranged from step by step guides to cooking skills like planning, preparation, weights and measures to delicious recipe ideas like spaghetti bolognese with an Asian twist.

“The learners thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, both taking part, and devouring the results of the cooking sessions. It has engaged them in positive activity, helped them get active, and improved their communication, social skills and hugely progressed their confidence levels. One of the participants has improved his employability and started a full time job recently! He specifically highlighted that it helps his confidence and motivation.”

“We often use the hashtag TechForGood in our social media posts and I feel like Recipe4Success is the perfect example of how simple technology can be used to improve people’s lives - I’ve really enjoyed watching and tasting the results!”

- Julie Nicholson, Managing Director, Digital Voice

All of the films created are available to watch on our YouTube channel.
