Roycroft Animation Project

Taster day in film and animation skills for the Roycroft Clinic at St Nicholas Hospital.

Who Took Part

Eighteen young people aged 14 to 17 took part over several evening sessions, working in three groups.

Purpose

To provide taster days in film and animation skills to young people from across the country, all staying in the Roycroft Clinic at St Nicholas Hospital.

Project Outline

The group were introduced to animation thought up three stories they would develop in teams.

What Happened

The groups used many different skills

  • animating
  • developed a story using storyboards
  • made sets and characters
  • animated them using IT skills
  • recorded the script and sound effects.
    • Results

      Three animations Total duration: approx 4 minutes.

      Sharing The Results With Others

      All the films were screened at a special event for the four wards and the staff. Each participant received a DVD and certificate of achievement to show family and friends.

      Benefits for Participants

      The groups developed interpersonal and communication skills as well as team working; they developed media and IT skills and used their creativity. Screening the films at the end of the project gives a great sense of achievement and improves self esteem.
