We worked with students from Cedars School and St Chad’s to produce a film which included their animations to communicate the message that it is important to listen to children with additional needs.
Gateshead council is changing the way it works with children with additional needs and creating a single plan for them. The film gave a voice to those affected to tell professionals why it is important that their views are at the centre of those plans.
The young people decided to produce animations which showed their hopes and aspirations for the future as well as representing times they have and haven’t been listened to and what the results were.
They were interviewed about those issues and we created a film with them to show to professionals at a conference.
The group had the opportunity to develop their creative and I.T. skills as well as having the opportunity to make a difference by voicing their opinions.
Gateshead Council commissioned the piece to help improve its services for children with additional needs and inform the conference of the importance of listening to what children want.
This type of approach is a very effective way of involving young people to give them a voice.Back
