Digital Skills for Gateshead

Digital Voice worked with groups of adults with learning disabilities based across Gateshead.

The training really excited us! We have applied what we learned to our projects.

Who Took Part

Digital Voice worked with groups of adults with learning disabilities based across Gateshead.

purpose

We secured re-funding from the European Social Fund to further develop the skills of groups we worked with successfully in 2011.

    What Happened

The groups were consulted about how they’d like to develop their I.T. skills further, to improve their employability. Each group came up with exciting ideas of what they’d like to do; the Winlaton Group decided to produce images and posters to raise awareness of hate crime; the Lawnmowers worked on different ways to promote ideas through new media, such as live feeds of their performances; the Gateshead People group created short films to help increase access to services for others. All had good fun doing it!

Results

The participants have produced lots of very interesting work, examples of which can be seen below.

Benefits for Participants

The groups had the opportunity to develop their creativity and learn new ways of presenting their ideas and benefitting their communities. They worked mostly with iPad technology.

Who Else Would Benefit from this Sort of Project

This approach is a very effective way of improving employability by working with groups on projects which are of use to them, developing their skills through professional tuition and support.
