Best of Both Multimedia Project

Using film, animation and interviews to showcase the activities and celebrate the merging of two youth groups.

Who Took Part

Thirty young people aged 16-25 from across the west end of Newcastle took part.

Purpose

To train a group of young people with a range of learning and/or physical disabilities to use film and animation skills so they could document and celebrate the merging of two youth groups into one new super group; ‘Best of Both’.

Project Outline

The group used animation and filming to explore what they liked about the club and show to others who might be thinking of joining. They interviewed one another and used different types of animation to represent some of the many activities on offer there. They worked together over a six week period.

Results

One video which mixes film and animation. Total duration: approx 5 minutes.

Sharing The Results With Others

The video was screened at a celebration event at the end of the project for friends and family and each person received a DVD and certificate of achievement.

Benefits for Participants

The groups developed interpersonal and communication skills as well as team working; they developed media and IT skills and used their creativity. Screening the film at the event gives a great sense of achievement, so increasing self esteem.
