Animation project helps children understand their rights to advocacy

A group of eight looked after young people have created an animated DVD to be used with children throughout the borough.

A group from Gateshead’s One Voice Network created the DVD to inform all looked after children in the borough about what an advocate does and what that means for them. Gateshead Council have a dedicated helpline where looked-after children can access the service. Digital Voice worked with them to animate a story the group created to explain what an advocate does and how they could get in touch. The animation was screened at the Achievement Awards in Gateshead for all looked after children and their carers so they are more aware of this service. The project was supported by the Children’s Rights Officer and the Looked After Children’s Virtual Head Teacher.
