Five groups of older people from the west of the borough are taking part in this free training which promotes digital inclusion, helping them get online, be safe, get in touch with family and friends through social media, and get creative with photos.
One of the participants said after the first session: ‘We’ll all be on tablets!’
This programme comes in response to the success of the Digital Voice pilot scheme with carers in County Durham, and we aim to roll it out across the North East. As well as learning lots of practical things to combat digital exclusion, the groups will make a calendar of photos online.
Our consultation has shown that many older people fear the internet – social media in particular – and have really benefitted from this training, which is informal and created to meet the specific preferences and needs of older people.
