Digital Storytelling event success

29th March 2018

The Digital Storytelling project with a group of Syrian refugees shared lives – and food! – with local people in County Durham. Digital Voice facilitated the participants to create representations of aspects of their lives. They wrote their scripts in English, and those were used as voice-overs for photos and images illustrating their chosen content. Digital tools, such as tablets were used, alongside mixed media of text, drawings, photos, animation, audio and video.

At the end of the course, the participants organised an event and used social media to disseminate their stories. The event was a huge success, well attended by their families, the wider community and Durham County Council workers. The food provided was made by participants and included Syrian dishes and other delicacies.

We plan to continue to facilitate Digital Storytelling for other refugees and more groups who would benefit from this opportunity.
